Carefully, and it is reviewed per project. We do not modify a rated exterior unit as a matter of course. The usual approach is to apply film to interior glazing and partitions, or to specify laminated smart glass into the glazing package where the exterior wall itself needs to switch. Any impact rating remains a matter for the glazing manufacturer and your permit set.
Retrofit film is applied to the interior surface and does not change how the glazing reads from outside, which is normally the association’s concern. Approval is still the owner’s to obtain, and we supply product documentation for the submission.
