Valley architecture puts long uninterrupted glazing toward Camelback, the Superstitions and the McDowells. Those elevations also take direct sun for most of the year, and the standard answer has been motorized shades that fail, fade and hum along an entire glass wall.
Switchable glass removes the hardware from the opening. Privacy becomes electrical rather than mechanical, so a 30-foot elevation switches in one action with nothing hanging in front of the view. Note the distinction: PDLC glass is a privacy product, not a solar-control product. Where heat load is the real problem we plan it alongside the low-e or shading strategy rather than instead of it.

It should not be specified for that. PDLC switchable glass is a privacy product. The private state scatters light rather than blocking solar heat. On Valley projects we coordinate with the glazing and low-e strategy so privacy and heat load are each solved by the right product.
In most cases, yes. Retrofit switchable film is applied to existing interior glass partitions, so the room you already have becomes switchable without replacing the glazing.
New partitions are usually specified as laminated smart glass, with the switchable layer sealed inside the panel. Existing partitions are usually retrofitted with film. We help you confirm the right format for your project.
A wall switch by the door is the most common setup. The glass can also be controlled by remote, app, or the building automation system, and multi-zone control lets each room or wall switch independently.
The switchable layer provides visual privacy. Acoustic performance depends on the overall glass and partition build-up, which we review as part of the project consultation.
